Jan Alsenz leads the research team at Oneconsult, which analyses and develops new exploits and attack scenarios, and publishes security advisories and specialist IT security articles. He has been a member of the extended management team since 2010 and is Chief Research Officer since 2015. He After his master’s degree in computer science at ETH Zurich, Jan joined Oneconsult in 2009 and has since been active in penetration testing and security consulting with a special focus on sophisticated technical audits (e.g. APT and SCADA), code reviews, reverse engineering, exploit development and training. Jan is a certified OSSTMM Professional Security Tester (OPST), OSSTMM Professional Security Analyst (OPSA), OSSTMM trainer and member of the ISECOM Core Team.

    Every major public electric utility company is rolling out, or already has in place, smart meter infrastructure. A lot has been said about smart meters, and there has been a lot of speculation and concerns about their security. But few people have actually looked into the involved protocols, let alone the devices in the field. In this talk we will introduce one of the most commonly used protocols - G3-PLC. And present the first toolkit to communicate from a standard computer with a G3-PLC network, and use your well-known tools to investigate the devices in the network.
